Sezzle dumps small businesses

Sezzle unceremoniously dumps small businesses, proving they only care about big sales. Let me tell you about the absolute slap in the face I received from Sezzle.

After relying on their service to offer buy-now-pay-later options to my valued customers, they've decided to pull the rug out from under my small business with a cold, corporate message. Apparently, because my sales aren't 'big enough' for their liking, I no longer meet their 'minimum volume requirement.' Excuse me? When I signed up, there was no mention of some arbitrary sales threshold that could lead to sudden termination. Their reasoning is flimsy at best.

They vaguely mention 'ongoing efforts to allocate resources effectively and comply with increased industry regulations.' What does that even mean for a small business like mine? It sounds like a convenient excuse to ditch smaller merchants in favor of chasing larger profits. To add insult to injury, they state that 'continuing our agreement does not align with these updated standards' after reviewing my account and products. So, after processing my customers' payments and taking their fees, they suddenly decide my business isn't good enough?

This lack of foresight and sudden shift in criteria is appalling. And the kicker? They shamelessly hide behind section 12.1 of their Merchant Agreement, stating they can terminate at any time for any reason, in their 'sole discretion.' This just screams that they have no loyalty to the small businesses that helped them grow. It's a clear indication that if your sales aren't booming, you're disposable to Sezzle.

They've given me a measly 30 days before cutting off service and holding my funds for an additional 21 days after that. It's a clear message that Sezzle prioritizes its bottom line over the well-being of the small businesses that depend on their service. Finally, they have the audacity to demand I remove all references to Sezzle from my website and marketing materials. You bet I will!

I wouldn't want my customers to associate with a company that treats small businesses with such blatant disregard. If you're a small business owner or shopper considering Sezzle, think twice. They are clearly only interested in high-volume merchants and will drop you without hesitation if you don't meet their ever-changing, undisclosed standards.

Find a partner who values your business, no matter the size. Sezzle has proven they are not that partner.

Sezzle has the absolute worst customer service. If you arrive late to your hotel and they haven't done their part by paying the hotel or reserving it, you might as well just forget getting anyone.

Me and my girlfriend had to sleep in our car overnight because you can't call and talk to anyone And it takes hrs for them to respond. I personally would not recommend them

The email I used on the order and the one I have on file with Sezzle is pattypiazza@***.com.

Yesterday I got a message that my Sezzle payment failed. I could not see any reason for the failure, but I went in and paid it manually along with the fee for late payment.

Today I get another text message saying the payment failed and now there's a $17.69 fee on top of my original $12.69 payment!

Of course I was not able to get any assistance from the chat bot and if you are lucky enough to find a customer service phone number for Sezzle, it is only automated. There is no way to talk to someone who can explain what's going on. There is absolutely no way out of this nightmare.

This order (Order ID: 707485) is nearly identical to an order (Order ID: 703711) I had with Sezzle in April 2025.

That order had no issues. What changed? And how in the world would I find out?

So, today I paid the ridiculous fee plus my payment but I have no assurance that it will be posted and I feel terrified that I'm in danger of acquiring more and more fees as well as a poor payment history. I've learned a lesson here.

It would have been so much better to just make my original purchase without the "convenience" of spreading the payments out with Sezzle. The time and stress this has caused me is definitely not worth it.

I am a Sezzle diamond member for months and have loved shopping with them. New loan agreements mean you have to pay a fee to pay stuff off early. Way to lose a 3-year shopper.

Old acct

In 2020, I purchased a leather coat from Inland Leather in California through Sezzle. The coat came too small.

I sent it back the next day, and a certified receipt was received back. I have all my documentation, and as of 2025, they are still harassing me for that account, which was taken care of the very next day.

What the—what's wrong with these people? Stop harassing me; I receive emails daily.

I had signed up just to purchase a couple of work sweaters, and when I received them, they were so cheap. However, they stated that I had to pay nine dollars each to return them, so I returned one just because it was so horrendous.

Then, there was fraud reported on my card, suspicious activity, and I received a notification from my bank telling me that they would have to replace my card. In the meantime, Sezzle tried to take my payment and it didn't go through, so they charged me $20 for each payment, $1.50 for processing, and five dollars for a convenience fee. So, the one ugly sweater ended up costing me over $120 when it was only $32. Never, never again.

Zip, Klarna, and Affirm are 1 million times better.

I even submitted my documents to customer service to prove that my account was compromised and they refused to cooperate, simply offering me a maximum of a five-dollar refund. Pathetic.
